The Ejari System

November 23, 2015

Dubai’s real estate market is regulated by the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (“RERA”), supported by Dubai Land Department.

RERA has set a legislative framework that regulates the relationship between the landlord and tenant, guaranteeing their rights and establishing their duties and commitments through legislations in force.

The tenancy relationship between landlord and tenant is governed by a tenancy contract describing the property in detail, the purpose of the tenancy, period, rent and name of owner if the owner is not the landlord.

Ejari in Dubai

Ejari means ‘My Land’ in Arabic. In accordance with the system, all tenancy agreements must be registered with Ejari.

Registering the tenancy agreement with Ejari ensures that the rights of the landlord and tenant are recognized, upheld and enforced in the event of any dispute.

On vacating a property, Ejari must be cancelled and failure to do so will prevent registration of a new tenancy agreement.
