What's involved

Saudi Arabia Cultural Awareness Overview

Key areas covered in the programme

Understanding culture

A grounding in how culture shapes values, norms and behaviour in Saudi Arabia.

  • Culture is learned, shared and passed down through generations — it strongly shapes everyday behaviours
  • Cultural differences are not “wrong” — approach them with curiosity and an open mind
  • Be cautious of generalisations; individuals vary widely even within the same culture

Business culture

How trust, hierarchy and relationship dynamics shape professional dealings in the Kingdom.

  • Focus on trust, networks (wasta) and face-to-face meetings over contracts
  • Respect hierarchy, age and titles — acknowledge seniority
  • Expect flexibility in timing; use non-verbal cues and indirect communication

Living in Saudi Arabia

Practical guidance for daily life and cultural integration in the Kingdom.

  • Islam shapes daily life — prayer times and Ramadan affect routines
  • Use proper greetings, respect titles, avoid sensitive topics
  • Dress modestly; public affection is forbidden; alcohol is prohibited; home invitations show trust

Working in Saudi Arabia

Navigating the professional environment from day one.

  • Working week is Sunday–Thursday; indirect, high-context communication; senior leads discussion
  • Reforms under Vision 2030 allow greater female workforce participation, but some traditions remain
  • Building trust takes time — hospitality is central, don’t rush relationships
